Troubleshooting
Most problems show up as a red message at the top of a column. Find the message below, or the symptom that matches what you're seeing.
1. A column shows a red error message
Click the sliders icon in the column's header to check its settings, then use the update button in the header to try again.
| Message | What it means and what to try |
|---|---|
| Couldn't reach a website | The site didn't answer. It may be down for a moment. Try again in a few minutes |
| A website answered 404 or another code | The address doesn't exist or the site refused the request. Check the address in the column settings |
| That doesn't look like an RSS or Atom feed | The address isn't a feed. Look for the site's real feed address. See RSS / Atom feed |
| Enter a full feed URL starting with http:// or https:// | The address is missing its beginning. Paste the whole address |
| That feed address isn't allowed | Feeds on a private network can't be used. Use a public address |
| Couldn't find that YouTube channel | Paste the channel's full address from YouTube instead. See YouTube channel |
| Bing News didn't return a news feed | Bing may be busy or blocking the request. Try again later, or use a News search column instead |
Note: A column keeps showing its last stories when an update fails, so an error doesn't mean you've lost anything.
2. A column is empty
- "No items yet": the column may still be loading, or the source has nothing new. Wait a moment and update it.
- "Nothing matches that filter": clear the Filter this column box.
- Everything is gone: you may have hidden it. See Hiding a story.
3. Stories aren't updating
Columns only update while Info Deck is open in your browser. Leave the tab open, or reload the page and they catch up. If a column looks stuck, click its update button.
4. A story has no picture
Not every source includes images. A card without a thumbnail is normal for those sources.
5. I can't sign in
- Wrong password: check your email and password, and make sure caps lock is off.
- No confirmation email: check your spam folder, and wait a minute or two. If it still hasn't arrived, try creating the account again.
- Google sign-in shows an error: sign in with your email and password instead.
- Signed out unexpectedly: just sign in again. Your columns and saved stories are kept with your account.
Still stuck?
Reload the page first. It fixes most one-off problems. If a particular source keeps failing, try opening its address in a new browser tab to see whether it works there.
